Portraits (2019-)

This project comprises game engine programs, 3D scans, videos, performances, paintings, digital models and more. Influenced by the discussions OOO and the ‘being’, of virtual entities this project started as a series of ‘Diary room’ portraits of Adobe Fuse avatars and has since expanded to be a series of broader experiments looking at the interplay between ‘real’ and ‘virtual’ ontologies, and representations of portraiture throughout history including those in art history and painting, to TV talking heads or virtual avatars.

Self Portrait (2019-)

Unity Game Engine Programme,

Infinite Duration

This project plays with the shifting boundaries around what we regard as ‘real’.

This self portrait is materialised using android 3D scanning software, Unity Engine, and Facerig (all  of which are free softwares) to create a never-ending virtual interpretation of my face’s geometry, movement and being.

The premise is to treat data itself, in the context of the Second Digital Turn (Mario Carpo, 2017), as a material - one that is now in even greater abundance than garbage itself - and to explore how vernacular processes are incorporating this new stuff into the the real and virtual

environments, and everything in between.

This portrait was made using a 3D scanning app available on the android store, Blender and Unity (all are available for free).
